Up until 1983 Grenadier's base markings varied. Around 1983 they adopted codes clearly marked on the base of each figure. These were not the product codes seen in catalogs or on boxes and blister packs. The codes consisted of an alphabetic prefix followed by a number. See: examples.

- General Purpose
- AAdventurers - used for humans & anything not 'M' or 'S'. The A probably stood for adventurers.
- MMonsters - used for any sort of monster, orcs, goblins, etc. The M probably stands for monsters.
- SSkeletons - used for undead creatures. The S probably stands for skeletons.
- Range Codes
- CA The Call of Cthulhu range, human figures.
- CH The Chill Nightmares boxed set.
- CM The Call of Cthulhu range, non-human figures.
- E The Elves of the Silvan Brotherhood boxed set.
- FF The Comedy Lords boxed set.
- FP The Julie Guthrie's Fantasy Personalities range.
- G The Giant's Club box sets but later reused for the Julie Guthrie's 700 series and 2 box sets.
- LL The Lost Lands boxed sets and a few packs in the Fantasy Legends range.
- ME The Lord of the Rings boxed sets.
- MM The Monster Manuscripts boxed sets.
- O The Dragon Lords Orcs of the Severed Hand boxed set.
- SA The Secret Agents boxed sets.
- SE A strange outlier code - only one example.
