+Hobby Products had two distinct styles of base - an early "irregular style" and a circular ""standard style that fitted neatly into square, plastic bases.

+The original bases on all Hobby Products figures were irregular with a textured topside. Underneath there might be a figure code and, more likely, a sculptor mark which, in the early days, usually meant the stylized initials of Josef Ochmann, with his "JO" initials looking more like "db", and Michael Immig with his nested "MI" initials looking sort of like the head of a trident. This style of base lasted until around 1987 when new figures with the standardized base style started appearing.
+A later, regular style of bases and base markings started appearing around 1987. Instead of irregular shapes, base sizes now came in 3 types: (a) circular, 20mm diameter; (b) circular, 25mm diameter; (c) lozenge-shaped, of variable length. The 20mm circular bases became standard for Hobby Products and FanPro figures. Ral Partha Europe, who now manufature the DSA and Armalion figures, also produce the plastic recessed bases that fit these figures (they also sell a larger 45mm cavalry type base suitable for Hobby Products cavalry figures and some of the monsters).
+
+The style of base markings that accompanied these new bases were initially inscribed but soon became stamped. The standard format was an optional 'C' (for copyright) followed by 'HP' (for Hobby Products), a two digit year and the initials of the sculptor according to the table on this page. This format for base markings can be found on figures from the Metal Magic, Spacelords, DSA, and Armalion ranges.
+
+In one case (discovered so far) the larger circular 25mm base was later trimmed down to the smaller 20mm size - saving metal and making the base size suitable for the plastic 20mm bases: C1009 Orcs (Metal Magic) exists both as a 1988 series with 25mm bases and as an otherwise identical 1992 series with 20mm bases.
+
-For most of their ranges, the bases of the Hobby Products figures were stamped with 'HP' (for Hobby Products), a two digit year, and the sculptor's initials.+===Hobby Products Sculptor Initials===
