Commercial Companies & the Wiki
From Lost Minis Wiki
This page is a guide to adding manufacturers and for companies and manufacturers who want to know how to contribute to the Wiki. For a list of companies that have given permission please refer to the Commercial Contributors page.
Introduction
The Lost Minis Wiki is a non-profit site dedicated to identifying, photographing and documenting fantasy miniatures. We do this independently of any direct company control apart from Miniatures Workshop who pay for the website hosting. The subject of how we interact with companies and, specifically, advertising has come up before on the wiki but we have decided not to go down that route (this may change but there are no plans to do so). However, contributions of images and information on ranges from companies are welcome. Please follow the guidance below.
Adding a Company
- Slow: if you have a company, whether yours or somebody else’s, that you want adding then please check first whether they have been added to the Manufacturers List of companies that are on our research list. Feel free to add it to the list with any information you have and it will be researched by one of the volunteers in the future. The wiki is volunteer run and adding pages, editing pictures and uploading them takes time and effort so please be patient.
- Soonish: contact existing members of the Lost Minis Wiki via the support subreddit or our Facebook page.
- Fast: the quickest way to add a company is to become a member and add it yourself. Membership can be requested by using our Contact Form.
Do
- Contact us if you want us to list your company because we want to see those minis and provide a reference point for all manufacturers.
- Become an active part in the wiki process and request an editors account. This will enable you to organise your own pages with image galleries and to upload your own images. Even if you don't do that you might want an editors account simply to correct our mistakes!
- Contact us with any corrections, requests, suggestions or questions.
- Provide any information on ranges or manufacturers that are out of production that you either have knowledge of or are looking to bring back in to production.
- Feel free to donate towards the hosting of the website, however no one will be asked directly or required to donate to the wiki (see link in the sidebar).
- Keep your words neutral with no flowery or advertising speech, these are not appropriate for any wiki and will be changed.
Don’t
- Use the wiki as an overt advertising vehicle.
- Don’t upload images with watermarks or supersized logos, since those are attempts to advertise by stealth and will be removed. It is unnecessary when the image is on a page that is dedicated to your company.
- Try to highlight any one company over others.
Changes to the wiki are monitored and in most cases a breach of the above rules is unintentional. In this situation we will contact you and explain however persistent offenders will likely be removed.
Final Comment and Thank You
The wiki would not be what it is today without our contributors, both commercial and private. Any help, either in time spent editing, donation of images, permission to use logos, or providing information is always greatly appreciated.
