About the Range
The Fantasy Collector Series was first produced by Ral Partha in 1979. It has a complicated history: it was produced under two coding schemes - CSxx (earlier, the 1970s) and 02-xxx (later, 1980 onwards). The numerical part of the codes were the same in both cases: e.g. CS20 was equal to 02-020. This page uses the later 02-xxx format by default. In addition, up until 1985, the models were all sculpted by Tom Meier. In 1985 figures by Bob Charrette were added to the range and the range was split under two sub-headings: Fantasy Armies and Player Characters. This page details the earlier Tom Meier figures but these figures were also part of the Fantasy Armies (Ral Partha) series.
Elves
Wood Elves
- 02-003 Figure (a) seems slghtly different to three figures in (b) where the plume is to the side (not straight up) and the middle figure appears to have extra detail on its head.
- 02-004 This figure holds a pike with different styles of pennant; the figure seems the same. In the catalogues 02-004 is variant (b); variant (c) uses the pike from figure 02-007; and pike (a) is unknown.
Sea Elves
High Elves
- 02-009 Before 1985 this figure is a "High Elf", but from the 1985-1993 the same figure is listed as a "Sea Elf".
- 02-014 has 2 variants: with and without a plume. The plumed version is shown in the 1981 catalogue.
Elf Command Group
Elf Chariot
Deep Elves
- 02-021 was originally listed as CS14 before reappearing in the 1982 catalog as 02-021. To confuse matters further CS16 is marked on the base.
Halflings
Dwarves
The Steam Cannon
- 1983 Origins Awards / H.G. Wells Awards: Best Vehicular Series – 25mm Dwarf Steam Cannon (02-030)

Collector Series Sets
As well as selling the Collector Series figures individually, Ral Partha bundled them together in sets with codes in the 02-100+ range. The Fantasy Armies (Ral Partha) series would reuse these codes for actual figures. These early Fantasy Collector Series sets and their contents are listed in the following table:
