HeroQuest (also written as "Hero Quest") was a board game published by Milton Bradley in conjunction with Games Workshop. Citadel produced the miniatures used in both the game and the expansion sets. It was released in the UK in 1989 [1] and spawned several expansions (developed by Milton Bradley) [2], a computer game, collectible stickers, some novels and a "HeroQuest Advanced Quest" edition [10] with a further 12 new figures - the "Black Guard". Various other versions were released around the world including the USA where two Quest Packs were released that were unavailable in Europe. [5]
Games Workshop also produced a revised and much more involved version of the game called Advanced Heroquest.

Against the Ogre Horde (1990)
The ogres bare a striking resemblance to the short legged version of the Marauder MB12 Giant Ogres.
Wizards of Morcar (1991)
- The Men-At-Arms models are all the same body with separate weapons that can be slotted in.
Barbarian Quest Pack (1992)
- The actual quest [6] was called "The Frozen Horror".
- There were 6 mercenaries in the pack and you could build up to 3 of any 1 type.
Quest Pack for the Elf (1992)
- The actual quest [7] was called "The Mage of the Mirror".
- The more obvious name of Elf Quest Pack was avoided possibly due to conflict with the Elfquest books?

The first version of the Heroquest miniatures didn’t make it in to the boxed game and included two knights later dropped. The two miniatures not sculpted by Jes Goodwin are likely sculpted by the Perry Twins. [11]

The 25th Anniversary Edition
In 2013, the Spanish company Gamezone Miniatures launched a Kickstarter campaign to produce a 25th anniversary edition [3]. This led to a dispute with Moon Design Publications LLC who blocked the Kickstarter [4] as they had released a role-playing game called "HeroQuest" in 2003 (which was set in Greg Stafford's world of Glorantha... which was also the setting for the much older RPG "RuneQuest"... a version of which was released in the UK in the 1980s by Games Workshop).
