Citadel's Blood Bowl (1st Edition) was first advertised in White Dwarf 84 (Dec 1986) as a one-page teaser. It then appeared in the next four editions of the magazine as a one-page advert showing the game with cardboard standups for players i.e. no metal miniatures.

Only a few metal figures were released for the 1st Edition game. They appeared in the mail order flyers as LE18, BB1, BB2 and BB3. It took until White Dwarf 89 before magazine space was freed up to showcase the models. There was then a gap until White Dwarf 95 when the "Death Zone" expansion came out - again with cardboard standups.
