Ral Partha released The New Samurai range under the "Ral Partha Imports" label in the late 1980s. This range won the Origins Awards Best Historical Figure Series of 1987. The product packaging did not carry the names of the sculptors, however the Origins Award announcement attributed the range to Dennis Mize and Bob Charrette. Bob Charrette has confirmed this, indicating that he sculpted the armored figures and Dennis Mize sculpted the unarmored ones. The figures were also called "Shogun Hard Guys".
